Although originally released in fall of 2022, this B-side song by LE SSERAFIM has made its way onto my “Winter Playlist” year after year. On the surface, the song seems more simple in production, but it truly has incredible direction. The vocals are polished and fluid which give off that whimsical feel that reminds me of the beginning of winter. Besides the song’s elegant musicality, the lyrics themselves are just as beautiful. The song is all about embracing your imperfections and impurities and being proud of who you are to everyone around you. Every person is different and we should embrace our uniqueness instead of trying to pick ourselves apart over unrealistic standards. Although not as popular as other LE SSERAFIM releases, this song will always be one of my favorites.
The creative direction surrounding Aespa’s cyberpunk concept as a group will never fail to leave me absolutely gagged. Not only are their outfits and music videos a masterclass in styling and video direction, but their songs are always a cinematic listening experience that matches every single detail of their concept’s structure. “Whiplash” in particular really leans into the electro house genre along with their consistent footing in pop and synth beats. Parts of the song remind me specifically of the song “Satisfaction” by Alessandro Benassi and Benny Benassi which is a classic in and of itself. “Whiplash” is infectious, energetic, and brings the mood of fashion and modeling into musical components. I mean you can’t help but listen to this song and imagine what your runway walk would be like.
This blog is no stranger to KISS OF LIFE and therefore no stranger to giving them their praise. I have been following them since the start of their career and am constantly surprised with the consistency of hits that they put out. Their maturation as a group is easy to see with “Igloo” being a perfect example of their evolved style and flair. The R&B song is a B-side on the group’s newest album and has already gained much attention on social media, even more than the title track itself. Like many KISS OF LIFE songs, “Igloo” radiates confidence as they sing about the effect that they have on others. As of right now the song has no music video but they have performed it on various music shows and channels in order to promote it. It’s safe to say that the promotions are working.
